Sue Hubbard - Fused Glass Artist
I have been working with glass for over 16 years, and loving it.
When I first started working with glass it was making stained glass panels, lamps and sun catchers. I started my own business called Art Glass Images in 2003. I was only doing stained glass at that time. Over the years I got interested in fused glass and took some classes at Delphi in Lansing, Michigan. Since taking the classes at Delphi, I have changed the focus of my business to doing mainly fused glass.
When I make fused glass pieces, I use layers of glass and fire them at temperatures of up to 1500 degrees. Some of my pieces are slumped into forms to make bowls, platters, and plates. I use all Bullseye compatible glass in my work. Most of the pieces I do are fused several times before they are finished. And all of my work is annealed properly to ensure durability and relieve any stress, which may cause the glass to break in the future.
I am also a glass bead maker and I have a lot of fun making beads and designing jewelry with the beads that I make.
I was asked to be one of the owners of the Big Tree Gallery in Jackson, Michigan with three other artists, which was in the Art 634 Building in downtown Jackson. I am no longer a part of this gallery since I needed the time to focus on my work. And sadly this gallery has recently closed.
I was teaching classes in my private studio and teaching classes at the Two Twelve Art Center in Saline, Michigan and Ella Sharp Museum in Jackson, Michigan prior to moving to Florida.
